The Maryland Airheads invite all Airheads, riders and passengers on airheads, and all who enjoy motorcycling to the Last Days of Summer. This inaugural gathering will be located in the Upper Potomac River Valley of western Maryland at the Little Orleans Campground. We have secured a large group tent-camping area and a pavilion for gathering, relaxing, and general merriment. RV and cabin sites are also available, but you’re on your own to contact the campground if you want to go that route. Friends and children are welcome, but they’re your responsibility. We all know the people make the weekend, so we welcome all of your good vibes and positive attitudes.
The campground has hot showers, horseshoe pits, and a convenience store with various sundries. We’ll have people out at the campground and ready to go by noon on Friday, September 19th. We plan to provide dinner for folks who let us know they are going to show up by 6:00 PM on Friday. We will also provide a full meal Saturday evening. We’ll have coffee and doughnuts or various pastries both mornings and coolers to keep your beverages cold.
We are considering having an entire roasted pig brought in with all the fixings Saturday afternoon if we receive a strong enough pre-registration response. This is a good reason to register early! Otherwise we’ll have barbecue and sides brought in. Either way, we promise to feed you good!
There’s a lot to do and see in western Maryland and the riding is fantastic in all directions. A lot of MD Airheads are familiar with the roads in the area and we will have some routes mapped out both on paper and as GPS routes available for download from a cloud site for anyone seeking advice on where to head and what to see. We’re also planning a group ride on Saturday to the Flight 93 National Memorial with a stop for lunch for anyone interested. More details on this will follow for all who register.
Jim Mckinna has offered to host an informal seminar on Garmin’s BaseCamp navigation app on Saturday evening. We’ll also have tools on hand for limited wrenching if needed. If you have something you want to sell, bring it along and we’ll have a table you can put it on.
Getting there from just about anywhere should be a lot of fun. Interstate
68 runs east / west about six miles north of Little Orleans, but that’s probably the most stressful way to get there. GPS coordinates for Little Orleans, according to Garmin’s City Navigator, are N39 37.717 W78 23.369.
That will get you close. From Little Orleans, take Orleans RD SE northwest out of town. Bear right/north onto Oldtown Orleans RD SE. After about a ¼ mile make a right hand turn into the campground. The campground’s website
is: http://www.littleorleanscampground.com/ Their address is: 31661 Green Forest Dr., S.E., Little Orleans, MD 21766 and their phone number is:
Pre-register, so we can get a good count and figure out if the pig roast is an option. Early registration is $40.00 before July 1st, then $45.00 up to August 15th. Registration is limited to 100 people. If registration is full by the time we receive your reservation, we will notify you and return your fee right away. Registration includes two nights of tent camping, two dinner meals, coffee, doughnuts and pastries both mornings. We’ll also have rally T-shirts available for $15.00. There is a place to preorder those on the registration form to ensure you get the size you need. Will Andalora is handling registration.
Registration requests or questions should be directed to him at MDAirheads@gmail.com or (410) 596-0812. You can also contact MD Airmarshal Didier Devynck at email@example.com or (240) 643-3950.
