The shaft for a rocker arm assembly (1983 R80 RT) has the two mounting holes, but also a hole (deep indentation) towards one end. Does anyone know the purpose of it, and how is it supposed to be orientated: up, down, toward the center of the cylinder head, etc. ?
A photo is attached.
According to Snowbum's site, the rocker shaft likely for your 1983 model should have a center punch mark on one end. When assembled, that mark should be on top of the rocker assembly and the mark should be on the outside such that it is nearest the valve cover.
