I run my R51/3 with a 12v system but still use the original 6v horn.
The later is ok but I’m afraid to use it for more then 0.0005 seconds each time.
I need a modern 12 volt substitute that will wake the dead 5 km away, but still will look normally (not original, but normal).
I know that Fiamm is a good product, but can not find on eBay what I need. Also thinking about mounting 2 horns, so I will be loud enough while on the highway. Thanks in advance for any reply.

I have been using my original 6 volt horn for 4 years now with no problem with my 12 volt upgrade
Unlike a light bulb the windings in the horn are much bigger and can handle a higher voltage for a short time

I hope others will post the same
If you are worried that you may burn out your horn you could always add a wire wound resistor to lower the voltage to 6 or 7 volts
and can keep the original horn with the 12 volt upgrade

Or simply get an identical

Or simply get an identical looking 12v version of your Bosch horn such as ones used in old VW's and Porsche's. They are pretty cheap on Ebay

Thanks, but currently the 6v

Thanks, but currently the 6v unit is an ugly a/m product. Not the original one.

OK, but get one that LOOKS

OK, but get one that LOOKS original. Look for a Bosch FDE 12/1, the 12 volt version of the correct FDE 6/1. They are a staple on Ebay
