I have have created a website that may be of interest to those members keen on vintage racing motorcycles.

It is an informational site about the AMOL Special, a unique BMW Rennsport based motorcycle created by Oscar Liebmann in the 1960's with factory support. The bike was raced by Kurt Liebmann from the late sixties into the late nineties.

If you were a customer of AMOL or have an interesting story, please go the site and post a comment. Otherwise enjoy. There are some great photos of the bike from the late sixties during its construction, testing and early racing.

Thanks for that...never

Thanks for that...never having seen one. I was particulary interested in seeing how the cam gears work. One phone shows the head and the cam gears...genius! I still would like to see the crank end cam drive. Timing the cams certainly would be a challenge, not unlike the early chain drive OHC 911 Porsches.

RS crank, gear, cam, valve assembly.

Unlike the R5, R51 and R51/2 there are no chains on a Rennsport motor. All gears and shafts. Best demonstrated by the photos below. Incredibly complicated.

By my count, no fewer than 6

By my count, no fewer than 6 gears per cam in total. The precision of the gear must be so precise. If not the cumulative lash would significantly alter the cam timing on any given cam. The engineering involved in the was pretty amazing.
