I am putting a solo seat on my 1967 R69S and have a question on the bolt finish. The 1967 parts book says the main bolt and the smaller m6 bolts are all pho. black while the Barrington manual says they are cad plated. I have both available and was wondering if anyone here can help give some guidance on the correct finish.

Thank you!!

For a Late Bike

For as late a bike as yours, I would say cad. What year is your parts book for?

Both 1967

Dave,

The motorcycle is a 1967 and the parts book has a date of 1967. I would have thought cad as well but it was interesting to see "pho. black" in the parts book. Any help is appreciated!

If

If you are looking for what a bike judge can verify, go with what the parts book says. Otherwise, do what suits you. I’d go with the parts book.

Hardware

As a rule of thumb, the finish in "most" instances matches the part it is fixed too. Therefore nuts and bolts attaching the black fender to the black frame are black. On the motor, many finished are cad, so for example to nuts attaching the trans to the motor housing. The two small bolts attaching the from fender bow (which is chrome) to the the fender are also chrome (Knippiing bolts to be exact). Now I am sure there are some exceptions. Applying this rule, the seat frame and all mounting parts are black, so......
