No. 28

Hello Karl,

Did you buy the rig complete or did you add the sidecar to an existing bike?

Is the #28 from Ideal in Berlin? I have been talking to Stefan there about getting one to hang on my R12. It looks smashing! The suitcase is a nice touch.

Are you happy with the No 28?

Hello Bruce,
I bought the R51 back in the early 90's. I purchased a very thrashed S350 for it and rode the combination for many years until it became necessary
to rebuild the engine. Looking at the sidecar and the amount of metal work necessary to restore it, I decided to sell the car to a fellow in South Texas.
The #28 is from Ideal. It works and tracks very well. The boat has the usual spring suspension and the sidecar wheel has its own trailing link
suspension. This setup provides a very genteel ride for the passenger. The reason I chose the #28 is because of the fender and the sloped
back of the car which accentuates its early roots. The arcing curve of the fender highlights the spoked wheel and harkens back to a time when motorcycles
and sidecars weren't that far removed from bicycles. This really appealed to me!
The bike finally came out of restoration in 2009. The #28 was also added in that year.

Nice Article!

I see that you and your bikes got written up in OTL, and you're on the cover! Very nice, and very nice work on your rig!
