Just wanted to say hello. I recently picked up a 82 R65 with 20k on the odometer. Its been sitting the last three years with nothing done to it. So far i've flushed the brake fluid, all gear oil and engine oil. I still need to rebuild the carbs, the front forks and check the timing. I'm not a total newbie to motorcycles I also own an 04 SV650 and my wife has a 07 ninja 250.

Welcome!

I picked up a "free" '81 R65 last December from a friend. It had sat for a few years nearly unused and then the Hall Sensor died a year ago. It fired right up after I replaced the sensor. A friend, who is a former BMW mechanic, is visiting me right now and we're most of the way through rebuilding the forks (new steering head bearings, new seals, new master cylinder). I've also replaced the rear shoes and the foot brake light switch. As the bike has 170,000 miles on it, it's pretty road wearing, but I'm gradually bringing it back from the brink.
