Hi,
Is there a geographic based listing of members anywhere on here? Some way for members to see if there is another vintage fan in their own town or area they don't know about? If not,is it something members are interested in and could it happen? Believe me, I understand it is probably a lot of work to put together, we are a volunteer org and of course I have no skills to assist in making it happen, but it may be a great tool to help people get together--kind of an anonymous book for us!
If it is right here and I am missing it (well within the realm of reason) could you point me to it?
Thanks much
Larry (in Concord NH )

Oh no, wifes coming home- get the engine out of the oven!
"Are those bearings in the freezer?!" she calmly inquired

Geographic Membership List

Right now, there's no membership list available.

We've long gone back and forth about publishing a membership roster, but a lot of people don't want their names and addresses (or even just their towns) listed, for fear of theft. If a roster gets out (and on the internet, it could go all over the world in a flash), it's pretty easy to start looking up peoples' addresses, so it becomes a shopping list for a thief.

As we've never collected a list of people who want to be on a published roster, if we started now, we'd have to start with everyone opted-out. It would take a while before the list grew to any reasonable size.

What I could do is create a new forum group that has individual areas for different geographic regions. People could post events or questions about their region, and other members could volunteer answers and give more local information. If members in those regions chose to get together, so much the better.

If this seems like a good idea, and I get some feedback from you that you'd like to have this, I can create it pretty quickly.

Darryl - I don't know about

Darryl -

I don't know about Larry, but I think the Regional Forum idea makes sense. You know about the regional forums on the MOA website and it gets some interest for events, help with traveling, etc. I'd vote for it as a good start.

Wow-thanks for responding so

Wow-thanks for responding so quickly--amazing.
It is very understandable about the concerns you mention. Not having really thought about that I guess I should think too, not that my stable is very desirable. Regional subgroups, I think, tend to distance the overall group and now you need to go to two different places to see whats up. I guess this is why we have local meets and rallies. Anyone else out there have an opinion?
Thanks you Darryl for all your hard work to make this site and organization what it is.
Cheers,
Larry

One thing to help

One thing that could help people find others in their areas, and also make it easier in general to give advice, is to put something in the Location and Interests fields on your profile. Simply go to your user account page, click on the Edit tab, then click on the VBMWMO Profile button. A little ways down are these fields, and if you put something in them, others will be able to find out a little (but not too much) about you. Larry, I see that you've filled your location out, and that can help someone else when you ask a question on the forum.

regional forums

Being so far away, (Sydney, Australia) I would be very keen to get some idea of who in the world of pre 70 BMW bikes, would be interested in sharing ideas, experiences and events.
