Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and thought I would say hallo.
Over the weekend I bought a 1959 BMW R60 in Adelaide and am expecting it to arrive in Sydney at the end of this week.

Cheers

Welcome! So how are you

Welcome! So how are you handling the waiting game? Kind of hard, huh!!

Tell us more about the bike. What do you know of its background? Is it rideable right now and what are your restoration plans? Is this your first leap into BMWs?

It is hard, especially now

It is hard, especially now there are expected delays in the delivery

Well not much is know of its background apart from the fact that it was imported in Sydney. The previous owner didn't ride it much over the last 10 years he had it and had it maintained by a guy who knew old beemers. It has 71.000 k's on the clock, but who knows how often that has gone round. I took it out for a short spin, not too far though. Once warmed up it ran very smooth, cold it needed to be revved to keep it running. My logic here was, refresh the oil and go for a good long run that should clear out some of the suspected deposits.

Besides that it seems to be in very good shape, so restoration is not an immediate requirement. Reading though some articles the thing I worry about is the oil slinger, especially because I don't know how many k's it has been since it's last overhaul.

It is my first leap into BMW's but I have always been tempted by them

Sounds like you have a good

Sounds like you have a good running machine. Yes, those oil slingers will always be in the back of your mind. My R69S had about 27K miles when I got it...right at the point of considering cleaning the slingers. Since I didn't know anything about the past usage, I took the plunge. I actually rode it for a year getting to know the bike, etc., then I did the teardown. Now I don't have to worry about the slingers for 30-50K miles.
