New to the forum. I am replacing the inner seal on my 1983 r80rt 37:11 drive. it has leaked oil into my drum brake since i have owned it. I cleaned the drive and ran it with a power drill to find the oil coming from the center axle hole. My axle is covered in oil and it is leaking to the outside aswell. I got the new seal from Benchmark Works. I have tried to find articles on this but everyone seems to be replacing the spline seal instead. Is the bearing i have to remove an interference fit? i have access to an oven at my college to heat it up. i have read to heat the drive to 300ºF-150ºC and the bearing will just fall out. Any other hints would be nice. I am planning on doing this within the next 7 hours. Will the seals for the drive gear be damaged from the heat? Will the oil smoke in the oven? (this would not be conducive for an engineering lab environment).

The oil will definitely smoke and the seals will likely deform.
Although I'm not familiar with the specifics of your final drive, this is a very common way for BMW to assemble things.
