Hey guys, I've been looking for an older bike for a long time and finally decided on the R series. I found a local guy selling a 1970 R60/5 and wanted to get your opinions on it. I know the R60's has some problems getting the carbs tuned and with pinging so I didn't know if you guys would just stay away from this model, offer a lot less, or what you thought...

I know I may be different from most, but I don't care if I keep a bike all original - I don't mind using a different tank or something from a different model. To give you an idea of the look I'm after, this is pretty much my dream bike so I'll be trying to achieve a similar look:

Thanks in advance for any help!
Thought you might be interested in checkin' it out..kinda has the cafe look to it like you might have been going towards. I'll be out there in a few weeks and will take a look for you if you want. I'm no expert but have a mean poker face and can bullshit with the best of 'em.
Hard to tell from the picture, but the valve covers appear to be the later style from the /7 and the centerstand appears to be sacked. The two wheels seem to touch the ground...with the stock stand, the front tire should be about 2 inches off the ground.
The bike has visible needs and it may very well need mechanical work as well. I think it's overpriced as it sits. Offer him less if you're dead set on getting it. That said, if I were going to cafe a /5, I'd look for for a 750. My two cents.

Hi
I have heard that the 1970 /5's, the first year of /5 production, can be a problem child.
The bike listed is a short wheelbase bike and can be a little squirrley slowing down by breaking in turns.
The kick start feature is left over from older models and should not be used except in a pinch.
All this being said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Good luck
