Is this a big deal? The top right stud is snapped off inside the engine case. Been that way since my father bought the bike I believe. Also, it appears like there is quite a bit of sludge at the bottom under the pressure plate (not sure if you can tell from the photo). What does that signify?

The broken stud can be

The broken stud can be removed. Carefully drill it out using a sharp bit. Use a high quality extractor. Heat up that part of the case to at least 180' F with a torch. Spray some PB blaster in there. If it doesn't budge, heat cycle it again with another round of PB blaster and try again with your extractor.

The sludge is probably clutch

The sludge is probably clutch dust mixed with either oil or water. I can't see where it is from the photo, but if it's below the flywheel in the bell housing, then it could be either. Oil might come from a rear main seal leak or a transmission input seal leak. It wouldn't take a lot of it to make a mess. Water could be from riding in the rain or through puddles, if the engine and transmission don't seal perfectly around the bell housing.
