Hi,
I am trying to remove the chrome ring on my headlight to put some sort of cushion around my rattling lens in my headlight. The owner of the bike shop here said a good cheap fix is using a bike inner tube around it.
Anyway I don't know how to get it off, I don't see any screws holding it on and don't want to mess up anything. I'm sure it's a quick fix I am missing. I really need to get a service manual for this bike.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jonathan
It should...just look at how it is held in place. BTW...these lens are pretty pricey, so the last thing you want is to have it come loose and break when hitting the road. I believe what you can do us make use of a small black zip tie and pass it through a hole...you might have to drill a small hole for it come come out. But the zip tie will be your belt and suspendors that it will stay together.
Yes, it is probably just a spring clip, no screw. I will repeat the previous posts: do something to protect the bulb from falling out and breaking. They are expensive.
The clip should be on the ring, not the headlight bucket. See a headlight ring just down from the top of this page:

The squarish hole is where you would stick the flat blade screw driver to engage the spring clip. Push up and it should release. If you need to pry it off, use something like a popsickle stick to wedge between the ring and bucket to help it off.
It appears that with the square hole the the hole in the bottom of the headlight ring, you have ready made holes to use a zip tie.

Look on the underside...there may be a screw. If not then look for a slot to use a screwdriver to push a spring clip. Be ready to catch the ring and lens.
