Greetings R90S folks,
In need of replacing entire exhaust system on a 1974 model. Can members please comment on pros and cons between considering chrome or a SS system? I have limited experience with this, and can use advise on where to shop for this also.
Thank you all very much,
Beemerboy Ken

If you use a SS system, it

If you use a SS system, it will probably be the only exhaust the bike will ever need. The SS systems do have a different sound - more metallic and "ringing" but really only noticeable at idle or standing still. Some folks claim that the SS systems are more susceptible to "bluing" on the exhaust down pipes.

Exhausting

Thank you Schirmer6885,
I have a tendency to flip back and forth with striving to keep everything original, but then I understand the advantages of SS too. This is not a bike for show, just a nice rider, and I suppose SS might be the best way to go. I am not up to snuff with different quality vendors, are there any opinions out there?
Do not hardly know where to start looking for suppliers. Need a handful of things for a 90/6 also. I suppose many items are the same.....?
If going wirh a new system, have heard it wise to be certain bike is running in top tune before installing. That will help in reducing excessive heat and reduce discoloring pipes.

Ss exhaust

Ss exhaust looks a bit yellow compared to the silver chrome ones. But, who cares. They last forever.

I always fit SS ones when I replace exhausts. bit more expensive.

One thing to watch out for - they will react more with alloy head and nuts (bi-metallic corrosion). Make sure you use lots of copper or nickel paste.

Also, something that might suprise you. SS isn't as good as carbon steel at transferring heat so...head is cooler as heat pushed down exhaust.

Just buy em...
